Protection of Children Act 1999

The Protection of Children Act 1999 creates a system for identifying persons considered to be unsuitable to work with children. This will be achieved by checks being made of criminal records with the Disclosure and Barring Service. “Child Care Organisations” - defined as those concerned with the provision of accommodation, social services or health care services to children or the supervision of children under 18 years - have a mandatory duty to check and report to the Bureau.
